We’ve heard this question time and time again – is IQOS a vape?

Although both are alternative cigarette products, IQOS and vaping are two different things.

What is the Difference Between IQOS and Vaping?

Here's the difference:

1. Technology

IQOS is included in the category of smokeless tobacco products or tobacco heating. This device features a cutting-edge heating system known as HeatControl™. IQOS uses this technology to heat tobacco rather than burn it. In comparison, vaping, commonly referred to as using an electronic cigarette - works by heating and then vaporizing the nicotine or vaping liquid.

2. Tobacco

At IQOS, IQOS uses real tobacco leaves that are harvested, specially processed, and compressed into tobacco sticks called HEETS. Tobacco sticks are heated to 350°C without burning them to deliver the tobacco taste. However, that does not mean HEETS is not risk free. Tobacco contains natural nicotine which causes addiction. Whereas in vaping, vaping does not use real tobacco; but rather vaping liquids in a variety of flavors, and not necessarily nicotine.

3. Taste & Experience

IQOS delivers an experience that is similar to smoking. IQOS provides real tobacco taste and satisfaction. HEETS are designed to last around 14 puffs, which is around the same amount of time as a cigarette. Vapes, however, offer a completely new experience that is different from smoking, due to the usage of vaping liquids.

4. Product Variety.

Currently there are several different IQOS heated tobacco devices to choose from – such as, IQOS 3 DUOS, IQOS 3 Multi, IQOS 2.4 PLUS. Some IQOS devices have a separate holder and charger, while others have those components integrated as an all-in-one device. These different options allow IQOS adult users to select what best suits their lifestyle.

IQOS is Not a Vape

IQOS is different from vaping and IQOS is a better alternative than continuing to smoke*. Research has proven that the majority of harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke come from the burning process of tobacco. Unlike cigarettes, IQOS does not burn tobacco and thus does not produce smoke, so switching completely to IQOS can reduce chemical exposure compared to smoking. IQOS reduces exposure to harmful chemicals by an average of 95%** compared to cigarettes.
