About the 2025 Disposable Vape Ban in the United Kingdom

Many adult users choose disposable vapes as an alternative to smoking cigarettes. However, as of June 2025, there will be significant changes in the United Kingdom which will affect the availability of disposable vapes. There are undoubtedly lots of questions about the UK vape ban, including which products it affects, why it is being enacted, and when the ban on vapes comes into force. Here, we’ll unpack some of the common queries about the 2025 disposable vape ban and lay out all the key facts you may want to know.

What is happening and when will disposable vapes be banned?

The disposable vape ban comes into effect as of 1st June 2025. This means it will be illegal for businesses to sell or supply, offer to sell or supply, or have in their possession for sale or supply all single-use or ‘disposable’ vapes. *For consumers, this means that disposable vapes will not be available for purchase either in store or online from June this year. What vapes are being banned?

You may be wondering “are all vapes being banned?”. However, the UK vape ban only applies to disposable or single-use vapes.

What is classed as a disposable vape?

The disposable vape ban targets all vaping products that do not meet the criteria of being both rechargeable and refillable. If a vape meets only one of these conditions, it is still considered disposable.

To sum up, a disposable vape is any vaping device that:

  • Is designed to be single use.
  • Cannot be refilled (whether by e-liquid or replacement pods).
  • Cannot be recharged.
  • Does not have a replaceable coil.

From 1st June 2025, any vape with these characteristics will not be available for purchase.

Types of vape that are not banned

However, not all vapes will be affected by the disposable vape ban. Lots of adult users in the UK choose vaping as a smoking alternative, and reusable vapes will remain available. As per government guidelines, for a vape to be considered reusable (and therefore exempt from the ban), it must be both rechargeable and refillable.

Here are the characteristics of a reusable vape:

  • Has a rechargeable battery.
  • Can be refilled (either by e-liquid or by inserting pre-filled replacement pods).
  • If it has a coil, it can be replaced by the user.

A vape that meets all these requirements will still be available for sale and purchase.

Smoke-free products are not risk-free and provide nicotine, which is addictive. The best decision any adult smoker can make is to quit tobacco and nicotine use altogether. Smoke-free products are not alternatives to quitting and are not designed as cessation aids.
