Tubing and Volume Tobacco - Some Questions Answered

Some adult smokers may use tubing and volume tobacco to create cigarettes. But what is tubing tobacco? Does it differ from volume tobacco? Find answers to these questions and more through this guide.

What is Tubing Tobacco?

‘Tubing’, in the context of tobacco use, can refer to a pre-made, empty cigarette that usually comprises a filter and paper. Also often called a cigarette tube, tubing could be used by adult smokers along with tubing tobacco to make cigarettes.

‘Tubing tobacco’, as its name suggests, is often used to describe the type of tobacco used in cigarette tubes (described as tubing above). It’s commonly packaged in a can-shaped container and sold separately from the tubing and tubing device.

What is Volume Tobacco?

The term ‘volume tobacco’ is sometimes used interchangeably with tubing tobacco. Volume tobacco could be used as tobacco for tubing, provided that’s what the manufacturer created the product for. However, as with any product, it’s always best to check manufacturer guidance on how to use it.

It’s been reported that the way this type of tobacco is manufactured differs from that of rolling tobacco (commonly known as hand-rolling tobacco). What’s more, as its name suggests, volume tobacco is said to have more volume than hand-rolling tobacco, and 50g of volume tobacco may take up more space than 50g of hand-rolling tobacco.

How Does Heated Tobacco Differ to Cigarettes?

Tubing tobacco and volume tobacco are intended to be smoked. Heated tobacco heats rather than burning tobacco, therefore it’s classed as a ‘smoke-free product’ that is a better choice to continued smoking.

IQOS ILUMA is our latest tobacco heating device series. Cigarettes produce tar - IQOS ILUMA doesn’t. Tar is the residue from smoke after a cigarette is burned. IQOS ILUMA does not produce tar because it heats tobacco instead of burning it. It generates an aerosol residue that is fundamentally different from tar and consists of significantly lower levels of harmful chemicals.* Switching completely to IQOS ILUMA is less harmful than continuing to smoke.**

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The absence of tar does not mean that IQOS ILUMA is risk free. IQOS ILUMA provides nicotine which is addictive.

* Reductions in levels of the 9 harmful chemicals the World Health Organization recommends to reduce in cigarette smoke, which do not include nicotine.

**  Based on the totality of evidence available for IQOS in comparison with continuing to smoke. See Important Information on IQOS.com

While the best decision any adult smoker can make is to quit tobacco and nicotine use altogether, for those who choose not to, the tobacco heating device IQOS ILUMA is worth switching to.

It is a better choice than continued smoking and heated tobacco will cost you significantly less money than buying a pack of cigarettes. IQOS ILUMA devices can only be used with TEREA heated tobacco sticks. Find out how much switching to IQOS ILUMA could save you with our cost savings calculator.
